Privacy Policy
This is a translation of the Spanish version. If there is any discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails.
Soltar is an app that supports adults who are going through a separation or grief. We know that what you share at a time like this is deeply personal. That's why the app is designed so that most of your information stays only on your phone, and so that the little that leaves it is the minimum necessary.
In short
- You don't need to create an account or give us your email. There is no sign-in.
- Your journal, daily check-ins, letters, safety plan and questionnaires are stored only on your device. We have no access to them.
- When you use the chat with the companion, your messages go through our server so that an AI can reply. We do not store the content of those conversations.
- We anonymously measure which features are used, never what you write. You can turn this off in Settings.
- We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The controller of the data processed through Soltar is S. Cetrangolo, domiciled in Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic (in this policy, “we” or “us”). You can write to us at [email protected].
2. What stays only on your phone
Soltar has no user accounts. The first time you open the app, a random installation identifier (a UUID) is generated on your device and, from it, a short support code that you can see in Settings. That identifier does not contain your name or any of your data; it only serves to tell one installation apart from another.
All of the following is stored only in your device's storage, and we never send it to our servers:
- The name or nickname you choose, the type of loss, the approximate date and your country.
- Your daily check-ins: mood, sleep, how you are coping with the day, whether there was contact with your ex, substance use and whether you had thoughts of hurting yourself.
- Your journal, your unsent letters, your list of reasons, your thought records and your important dates.
- Your safety plan, including the names and phone numbers of contacts you add yourself.
- The results of the questionnaires (PHQ-9 and GAD-7).
- The history of your conversations with the companion.
Some profile data (name or nickname, type of loss, country and number of days) is used as context when you use the chat; we explain this in section 3. Your country and type of loss are also part of the anonymous stats, if you have them turned on (section 4).
PIN and biometric lock
If you turn on the lock, your PIN is stored on the device as a hash (a transformed version that does not allow the original number to be recovered). If you use your fingerprint or face recognition, that is handled by your phone's operating system: Soltar never receives your biometric data, only the answer as to whether the verification succeeded or not.
How to delete this data
- From Settings → “Delete all my data”, everything above is deleted from the device. Only the installation identifier is kept, so that the support code keeps working if you need to write to us.
- If you uninstall the app, the operating system deletes everything, including the identifier.
Soltar does not make cloud backups. Please note that, depending on how your phone is set up, the system itself (for example, iCloud or Google backup) could include app data; that depends on your settings and on those services, not on us. For the same reason, if you lose or change your phone, we cannot recover your information.
3. The chat with the companion and “Necessary messages”
So that the companion (“Talk”) and the “Necessary messages” tool can reply to you, when you send a message the app sends our server:
- the messages of the current conversation;
- basic context: your name or nickname, the type of loss, the days since the loss, the days without contact (if you are using that feature) and your country;
- the anonymous subscription identifier (from RevenueCat, see section 6), to know whether the free message limit or the subscription limit applies.
Our server forwards that information to an artificial intelligence service operated by us (a language model hosted on our own infrastructure) to generate the reply. We do not use those conversations to train models or share them with third parties.
Our server does not store the content of your messages. The only thing we keep is counters (how many messages were sent per day) to apply usage limits.
If a message contains expressions that may indicate a risk to your life or safety, the server does not pass it to the AI: it replies with a fixed safety message that includes helplines.
The conversation history you see in the app is stored only on your phone.
4. Anonymous usage stats
To improve the app and to look after the safety of its users as a whole (for example, knowing how often crisis resources are shown), Soltar sends usage stats to our server. This option is on by default, we explain it to you when you start, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings. If you turn it off, the app stops sending them.
What is sent:
- the installation identifier, the platform (iOS or Android), the app version, your country and the type of loss;
- the anonymous RevenueCat identifier, if there is one;
- events: which feature was used and when, and numeric or category values, such as mood on a scale of 1 to 5, the severity range of a questionnaire or whether a crisis resources screen was shown.
Free text is never sent: not your journal, your letters, your messages, your name or the contacts in your safety plan.
We call these stats “anonymous” because they do not include your name, email or phone number, and we have no way of knowing who you are. Even so, because they are linked to an installation identifier, we treat them with the same care as personal data, and you can ask us to delete them (see section 13).
5. Suggestions form
If you send us a suggestion from the app, we store on our server the text you wrote, the category you chose and the installation identifier, so we can read it and set priorities. It is completely voluntary. Please do not include personal data (yours or other people's). If you want us to delete a suggestion, write to [email protected] with your support code.
6. Subscriptions and payments
Subscriptions are purchased and charged through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Soltar never sees or receives your card or payment method details. The processing carried out by Apple and Google is governed by their own privacy policies.
We use RevenueCat, a third-party service, to know whether you have an active subscription. RevenueCat receives the purchase information from the store and links it to an anonymous identifier generated by the app, without your name or email. You can read its policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
7. Notifications
Soltar's reminders are local notifications: they are scheduled on your own phone and do not go through any server. We use discreet wording so they don't reveal your situation if someone sees your screen. You can turn them off from the app or from your phone's settings.
8. Health data and legal basis
Part of what you record in Soltar relates to your mental health (mood, sleep, substance use, thoughts of hurting yourself, questionnaire results). Under Ley 25.326 (Argentina's Personal Data Protection Law), this is sensitive data and receives special protection.
The legal basis for processing it is your express consent, which you give on the app's welcome screen after we explain what is stored on your phone, what is sent for the chat and what is measured anonymously. In addition, we apply a data minimization approach: the vast majority of this data never leaves your device, and what does reach our server (chat messages, passing through without being stored, and numeric stats with no free text) is the minimum necessary for the app to work and be safe.
You can withdraw your consent whenever you want: by turning off the stats, by no longer using the chat, by deleting your data from Settings or by uninstalling the app. Withdrawing it does not affect what was done before.
9. Who we share data with
We do not sell or rent data, and we do not use it for advertising. Only the following are involved:
| Who | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Apple / Google | Charging for the subscription and distributing the app | The purchase data, under their own policies |
| RevenueCat | Knowing whether your subscription is active | An anonymous identifier and the purchase status |
| Our hosting provider | Hosting our server | The data our server processes, as explained above |
Like any web server, ours and our hosting provider's may log technical connection data (for example, the IP address and the date and time of the request) for security and operational reasons. We do not use it to identify you.
We might also have to hand over information if a competent authority requires it under the law. Given how little we keep, in practice this would be limited to counters, stats and suggestions.
10. Where data is hosted
Our server and the AI service used by the chat may be hosted outside Argentina. In that case, the data that passes through the server involves an international transfer, which we carry out with the safeguards required by Argentine regulations. RevenueCat, Apple and Google may process data in other countries, under their own policies.
11. How long we keep it
- Data on your device: until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Chat content: not kept on our server.
- Chat message counters: 90 days.
- Usage stats: 24 months; after that they are aggregated (turned into totals that do not allow installations to be told apart) or deleted.
- Suggestions: until they are resolved, and then 12 more months.
12. Security
Communications between the app and our server are encrypted (HTTPS). We limit access to server data to the people who need it to operate Soltar. No system is infallible, but the best protection we can offer you is not to keep what isn't needed: the most sensitive information is only on your phone. To protect it, we recommend using the app's PIN or biometric lock and your device's screen lock.
13. Your rights
You have the right to access your data, rectify it, update it and request its deletion (known in Argentina as ARCO rights), free of charge.
- You can view, edit and delete the data on your phone yourself from the app.
- For the data we hold on the server (stats, counters and suggestions), write to us at [email protected] and include your support code (it's in Settings). Since we don't ask for your name or email, that code is the only way we can find your data.
We respond to access requests within 10 calendar days, and to rectification, update or deletion requests within 5 business days, as established by Ley 25.326.
The data subject has the right to exercise the right of access to their personal data free of charge at intervals of no less than six months, unless a legitimate interest is shown to that effect, as established in Article 14, paragraph 3 of Ley N° 25.326.
The AGENCIA DE ACCESO A LA INFORMACIÓN PÚBLICA (Argentina's Agency for Access to Public Information), as the Supervisory Authority of Ley N° 25.326, has the power to handle complaints and claims filed by those whose rights are affected by non-compliance with the rules in force on personal data protection.
You can contact the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública (AAIP) at argentina.gob.ar/aaip.
14. Minors
Soltar is only for people 18 years of age or older. If we learn that a minor used the app, on the server side we would only have counters and stats linked to their installation identifier; we will delete them if asked by writing to [email protected] with the support code. What is on the phone is deleted from Settings or by uninstalling the app.
15. If you live outside Argentina
Spain and the European Union. If the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to you, in addition to the rights above you have the right to restriction of processing, to data portability, to object to processing and to withdraw your consent at any time, and you can lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority of your country (in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos). The basis for processing health data is your explicit consent.
United States. Soltar is not a health care provider or a “covered entity” under HIPAA, and the app is not intended to be used in that context.
16. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If the change is significant (for example, if we started sending to the server any data that today stays on your phone), we will let you know in the app and, where appropriate, ask for your consent again.
