Terms of Use
This is a translation of the Spanish version. If there is any discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails.
These terms govern the use of Soltar, an app for iOS and Android that supports adults going through a separation or grief. Soltar is offered by S. Cetrangolo, domiciled in Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic (“we” or “us”). By using the app you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
The most important points
- Soltar is not a medical or psychological service and does not replace care from a health professional.
- Soltar is not for emergencies. If you are in danger or thinking about hurting yourself, call your country's emergency number right now (in Argentina, 911) or a helpline (in Argentina, 135 or (011) 5275-1135).
- The companion runs on artificial intelligence and can make mistakes.
- It is only for people 18 years of age or older.
1. What Soltar is and what it is not
Soltar offers self-help and emotional support tools: daily check-ins, a personal journal, letters, exercises, self-assessment questionnaires, a safety plan and a conversational companion based on artificial intelligence.
Soltar is not a health service. It does not provide diagnoses, treatment, therapy, or medical or psychological advice, and there are no health professionals attending to you on the other side. The questionnaires (such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7) are self-assessment tools for guidance only: their results are not a diagnosis. Soltar does not replace seeing a psychologist, psychiatrist or doctor. If you feel you need professional help, we encourage you to seek it; the app will also suggest it when it sees signs that you may need it.
2. Emergencies and helplines
Soltar is not equipped to handle emergencies, and nobody monitors what you write in real time. If you are at risk, or someone else is, contact your country's emergency services or a helpline immediately.
The app shows helplines based on your country. Those lines are third-party services: we do not operate them or control their availability, hours or how they provide support. We do our best to keep the information up to date, but numbers may change; if in doubt, check with your country's health authorities. Access to helplines within the app is always free.
3. The artificial intelligence companion
The replies from the companion (“Talk”) and from the “Necessary messages” tool are generated automatically by a language model. This means that:
- they may contain errors, inaccuracies or replies that don't fit your situation;
- they are not professional advice, and you should not make important decisions (about health, legal or financial matters, or your safety) based on them alone;
- there is no person reading the conversation.
If a message contains expressions of risk, the app replies with a fixed safety message with helplines instead of using the AI. This mechanism is automatic and may not detect every situation. Chat use has daily message limits, which may differ between the free version and the subscription.
4. Minimum age
To use Soltar you must be 18 years of age or older. If you are a minor, do not use the app, and talk to an adult you trust or to a helpline in your country.
5. Your responsibility
- You are responsible for how you use the app and for the decisions you make.
- Your data is stored only on your phone: protect access to your device and, if you wish, turn on the app's PIN or biometric lock. If you lose your phone, delete your data or uninstall the app, we cannot recover your information.
- If you enter other people's data (for example, contacts in your safety plan), make sure you do so responsibly.
6. Acceptable use
We ask that you do not use Soltar to:
- harass, threaten, extort or harm other people, or to write messages for that purpose;
- try to get the companion to produce illegal content or content that promotes harming yourself or others;
- try to gain unauthorized access to our servers, bypass usage limits or the app's protections, or interfere with its operation;
- copy, decompile, resell or commercially exploit the app or its content, except as permitted by law;
- use automated systems to send bulk messages to the service.
If we detect abusive use of our servers, we may limit or block access to the chat from that installation.
7. Subscription, free trial and payments
Some Soltar features require a paid subscription. Safety features and access to helplines are never charged.
- Purchase and billing. The subscription is purchased and charged through the Apple App Store or Google Play, using the payment method on your store account. We do not receive your card details.
- Free trial. When available, the subscription includes a 3-day free trial, offered as a store introductory offer. If you do not cancel it at least 24 hours before it ends, it automatically becomes a paid subscription. Each store decides who is eligible for the trial.
- Automatic renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period for the same term and at the current price, unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before renewal.
- Cancellation. You can cancel whenever you want from the subscription settings of your Apple or Google account. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. When you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- Refunds. These are handled by the store where you made the purchase, under its policies. This does not limit the rights granted to you by consumer protection law, including, where applicable, the right to revoke the purchase within 10 calendar days (Article 34 of Ley 24.240, Argentina's Consumer Protection Law). If you have any problem, write to us and we'll help you sort it out.
- Price changes. We may change the price of the subscription. The store or the app will let you know in advance, and the new price applies from the next renewal. If you do not agree, you can cancel before that date.
- Prices and taxes. The final price, including any applicable taxes, is the one the store shows you before you confirm the purchase.
8. Intellectual property
The app, its design, texts, exercises, illustrations, brand and logo belong to S. Cetrangolo or its licensors, and are protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, free (beyond the subscription), non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use the app on your devices for personal, non-commercial purposes.
What you write in the app (your journal, your letters, your check-ins) is yours. Since it stays on your phone, we have no access to it. We use the messages you send to the chat only to generate the reply, without storing them. If you send us a suggestion, we may use the idea to improve Soltar without this creating any obligation towards you.
9. Availability and changes to the app
We work to make Soltar run well, but the chat depends on our servers and on your internet connection, and it may have interruptions due to maintenance or failures. We may update, add or remove features. If a paid feature becomes permanently unavailable during a period you have already paid for, you will be able to claim whatever corresponds under the law.
10. Limitation of liability
We offer Soltar with the care and diligence expected of a service of this kind. To the extent permitted by law:
- we are not responsible for decisions you make based on the app or on the AI's replies, since Soltar is not a professional health service;
- we are not responsible for third-party services (helplines, app stores, RevenueCat, your carrier or your device);
- we are not responsible for the loss of data stored on your device when it is because you lost or changed it, deleted the data or uninstalled the app.
Nothing above limits the rights granted to you by Ley 24.240 (Argentina's Consumer Protection Law) or other rules that cannot be waived by contract, nor our liability for willful misconduct or gross negligence. If any of these limitations is not valid under the applicable law, it will apply only to the extent that it is.
11. Stopping using Soltar
You can stop using the app whenever you want: delete your data from Settings, uninstall it and, if you have a subscription, cancel it from the store. We may suspend access to the chat from an installation that breaches these terms.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of the Argentine Republic. In the event of any dispute, the competent courts will be the ordinary courts corresponding to the developer's domicile, without prejudice to your right, if you are a consumer, to choose the courts of your own domicile, as provided by Ley 24.240. Before getting to that point, we invite you to write to us to try to resolve it. You can also use consumer protection channels (in Argentina, argentina.gob.ar/produccion/defensadelconsumidor).
If you live in another country, these terms do not deprive you of the rights granted to you by the mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date above and, if the change is significant, we will let you know in the app with reasonable notice. If you keep using Soltar after the changes take effect, you are deemed to accept them; if you do not agree, you can stop using it and cancel your subscription.
